Dance Coaching or Performance Coaching can help you with personal challenges like self-confidence, technique, helping yourself "shine" when you feel you don't and more. It gives performers a chance to talk about their current challenges in a safe space to receive new options and support.
Melanie began dancing at the age of four with her mother, a pioneer in Laban Effort Shape, called creative movement or dance. She trained in Ohio with teachers such as Gail Grant, Cassandra Macino and Hope Masterson as well as in Canada and England. In Connecticut she trained with Sharon Dante and Cynthia Stone-Arenillas (Cunningham), and in New York CIty with Igal Perry, Robert Chiarelli (NYU), Doris Rudko and others. She had pedagogical studies in Vaganova Method at the Nutmeg Conservatory, and has taught ballet and creative dance to pre-schoolers through adults in Connecticut and Ohio. She has more than 30 years experience as a dancer and motivator.
After performing with the Nutmeg Ballet and her own groups, and teaching with Bowling Green State University's Creative Arts Program, running her own dance company, and teaching/coaching and choreographing for the Nutmeg Ballet Company (CT) many years ago, Melanie changed direction. She now focuses on therapeutic energy and bodywork, and transformation and personal growth.
Melanie turned to supporting dancers and choreographers first as a dance analyst (her term) in pre-performance so performers (ahd choreographers) could receive the feedback, tools, and support they needed before they got any reviews.
Melanie has coached both nonprofessional students as well as professional dancers in New York City and is now marketing her skills and expertise in the northwest Ohio region through Being Magic Creations, LLC, to assist dancers and other performers, including actors, musical theater performers and athletes. She has experience in ballet, modern dance, improvisational dance, meditational movement, Laban, craft of choreography, and some jazz and ballroom.
